Year 10 Students Take Field Trip to the Amazon
From June 1st to June 7th, Year 10 students from the Perdizes Campus explored the wonders of the Amazon.
They had various experiences and immersions, including jungle walks, swimming with pink river dolphins, fishing for pirarucu and piranhas, workshops on traditional sweets and medicinal herbs, Carimbó and Bumba Meu Boi dances, and much learning about sustainable tourism and the importance of the rainforest.
Besides exploring the local culture and the Amazon Rainforest, the primary goal of the trip was volunteer work as part of the learning through community service initiative.
The students volunteered in the village of Acajatuba, helping with trash removal, painting, and making signs. They also had the opportunity to teach important English and Spanish words to assist with local tourism, which receives many foreign visitors.
The group also participated in the Quelônios do Rio Negro project, which protects the local turtles, and had the wonderful opportunity to collect data on the baby Chelonians and release more than 20 turtles to their natural habitat.
These field trips challenge students to act and learn in different environments and contexts, connecting classroom content with the real world.
